Nice promo move by Rhapsody

I was on Yahoo last night looking for some info on Lenny Kravitz. For those who don’t know, I am a big Lenny fan. (You rock Lenny!) Well, I was doing a search on Lenny and (as always) Yahoo gives me some search suggestions to help me find more of what (it thinks) I am looking for.

Well, I noticed right away that at the top of the Yahoo search results is a big Lenny Kravitz section with all sorts of options like links to Lyrics, photos and such; but what caught my eye was a small little tab floating at the bottom of the screen.

I click the tab and out pops a player window giving me a choice of Lenny Kravitz songs that I could play on the spot. I choose “It ain’t over ’til its over” and begin to jam.

When the song was over (no pun intended) I click the “Learn more about this player” link.

I learned that this whole scenario was part of a promotion to get new subscribers for the music listening service Rhapsody. I was so impressed with this approach and might even sign up for a trial to explore further. As expensive as this promotion probably was, I thought it was a very good approach to getting new customers.

Kudos to the thought leaders behind this one!
