Blitztime the NEW Online Business Meeting Place. Seriously Check this out…

October 22nd, 2008 by jakepress | No Comments | Filed in Business, Cool, Entrepreneur, Jake Press, Technology, jim stroud

Do you know about these Online Events?

Featured Site: http://www.blitztime.com/ …..”How are you networking?”

So there you are!

You are at an event to meet people “business contacts” and here you are stuck in front of a guy, who just won’t stop talking! He is going on and on about things that really don’t interest you. Over in the corner next to the coffee table is someone that you know you have to speak to… what do you do?

You don’t want to be rude, but you have to talk to this contact. Politely excuse yourself from the conversation by asking for their card and letting them know it was great meeting them and you have to meet this other person before he/she leaves. There is however another solution… how about scrapping that networking event all together and joining something that I found recently, it’s called BlitzTime.com.

Now normally I wouldn’t write an entire column on a company “site”, but I found it to be incredibly resourceful with loads of potential. What if you could have those meetings from your office/home computer and phone with no traffic or “How’s the weather conversations”? Here’s how it works… You sign into blitztime.com and join “It’s free.. plain and simple”. You then have access to events whereby you will speak to several different people that pop onto your computer screen in 5 to 7 min increments. You dial into a number given to you and you will hear hold music letting you know that your blitztime is about to start. So now there you are, in front of your computer with the person that is about to speak to you in a matter of minutes or seconds. You have 5 minutes to tell what you do, what you can do for them and “vice versa”. No weather conversations here! During the call within the last 20 seconds, get their phone number and email address if it’s someone that has shown “interest” in what you do. Don’t let the time run out before saying goodbye, but if you do, there are still ways to connect in the site.

It’s a great way to polish, how you present your service or product and get you sharpened when speaking to others. I think this company is setting the future standard for how people will network online.

You may access them at http://www.blitztime.com/ ”Check it out today and see what YOU think!”

FitBit-Wireless device tracks your sleep, calories and exercise

September 10th, 2008 by Jim Stroud | No Comments | Filed in Technology

Did you get enough exercise today? How many calories did you burn? Are you getting good quality sleep? How many steps and miles did you walk today? The FITBIT TRACKER helps you answer these questions. If it TRULY delivers all of this data with a wireless device, then all I can say is WOW!

Check out these pictures of FitBit in action! The first thing that grabs my attention is how small the device is.

Fitbit

All you have to do is clip on your jeans (like below) or anywhere on your person and data about your activity is collected.

fitbit

And just where does all of that data go? Well, to an online database for you to review. (Of course) From their website… “View calories, steps and distance on the Fitbit Tracker itself. You can login to the Fitbit website to see even more detailed data and also partipicate in collaborative fitness goals with friends, family and co-workers.”

Can you imagine doctors giving these devices to their patients to wear for a week prior to an appointment? What about personal trainers who want to prescribe a more custom solution to their clients? So many possibilities…

Want to buy one? Tough luck! Its not available until late December/ early January, but you can pre-order this gadget now and be the first kid on the block to show it off.

Click here to check it out now.

I want to be a spy hunter

March 4th, 2008 by Jim Stroud | No Comments | Filed in Cool, Technology, virtual worlds

When I read this BBC News article I thought, “Wow! I could totally do that job!” Plus it would really feed into my James Bond fantasies. (Smile)

Here is a snippet…

James bond“The US government has begun a project to develop ways to spot terrorists who are using virtual worlds.
Codenamed Reynard it aims to recognise “normal” behaviour in online worlds and home in on anomalous activity.

It is likely to develop tools and techniques for intelligence officers who are hunting terrorists and terror groups on the net or in virtual worlds.

The project was welcomed by experts tracking terror groups using the net to organise or carry out attacks.”

Coming soon: Movies on flash memory cards! Very cool…

March 3rd, 2008 by Jim Stroud | No Comments | Filed in Cool, Technology

Oooohh!!!! I found out about movies on flash memory cards from an article on CNet. I like this one and I think it will fly once it hits the malls in America. (At least, among those early adopters like myself.) This is why I think (or hope) movies on flash memory cards is a good thing.

1. Unlimited inventory! Imagine having access to thousands of movies with new titles coming in every hour (if not minute) to a kiosk near you. I could review a bunch of trailers, make a selection of one (or several titles) and then download them instantly to a drive. A lot quicker than my beloved Netflix (sorry guys) and just as convenient.

2. It won’t matter how fast my computer can download huge files. Although I download a lot of things, many people are adverse to downloading files as large as movie files. I think the idea of renting (or buying) a bunch of movies in one sitting and then they sit on a device for me to play whenever I want to is too irresistible. Plus, I can store more Flash drives on my shelf that DVD covers; somewhat the same way DVD covers replace those big VCR tapes I still have scattered about.

My only wish is that Comicbook companies would jump on this bandwagon. I would LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT if I could buy say… the last decade of Batman comics and have them on a flash drive for me to read at my leisure. Pretty much like I do now with my MP3s, but hey, maybe that’s just me.

Anyways, here is a clip from an article that sparked off my little rant…

***

GALWAY, Ireland–PortoMedia is probably the only start-up in the world inspired by the movie Carlito’s Way.

Company founder Chris Armstrong explains: Four years ago, he set out to his local DVD store to rent a movie. First, he stopped at the ATM to get cash. The store didn’t have Twelve Angry Men, the movie Armstrong wanted. He settled for Carlito’s Way instead. He then waited in line, paid for his rental, and returned to his car.

Then he remembered another movie, Gone in Sixty Seconds, the title of which got him wondering why the process of renting movies, from start to finish, can take so long.

While other companies see the Internet as the answer to that question, Armstrong has another idea. PortoMedia is setting up kiosks that will let consumers download movies to a flash memory key or portable hard drive.

The kiosks will be packed with hard drives that can hold 350 to 5,000 titles. Users then plug in a memory device from the company, enter a PIN code, and buy or rent a movie. When consumers get home, they simply slide the memory device into a dock connected to a TV.

(Click here for the rest of the story)

If anybody stumbles across this tech in a mall, please send me a video? I would love to see it in action. And in case you had no idea what a flash card looks like, a picture is posted below.
